WHO IS AMANISHAKETO?
Amanishakheto, "Warrior Queen of Nubia" is best remembered as the woman who defeated the Roman army after Emperor Augustus sent his troops to conquer Kush. She was extremely wealthy, ruling over the kingdom that produced the majority of the gold in ancient Egypt (Kemet). Inside of her tomb, the warrior queen had a variety of gold bracelets, rings, necklaces and crowns that were unfortunately stolen by treasure hunters, some of which was recovered and later preserved in museums. She was also very powerful, responsible for overseeing and constructing many of the pyramids at Meroë. Her own pyramid in Wad ban Naqa has been one of the largest ever discovered, holding 60 rooms, adorned with gold, tall pillars and hieroglyphs.
